Know what to ask. Before you go.
The questions, records and checks that make a viewing worthwhile.
4 min read · Bivetica Cars practical guideStart with the essentials
Confirm the exact car, asking price, location and availability. Ask who owns it and whether you are dealing with a business or a private seller. Get the registration from the seller so you can check the MOT history before travelling.
Ask for the story, not just the specification
Ask what service records exist, what work has recently been done, how many keys are included and whether there are any known faults. “Full history” needs records to support it. Ask about maintenance that is due, including model-specific major service items.
Make room for a proper inspection
Arrange daylight and enough time to inspect the body, cabin, tyres and documents. Ask to see the engine started from cold where applicable. A fresh MOT is not a comprehensive mechanical inspection. Consider an independent inspection if you need help judging condition.
Agree the next step
Ask about a test drive and confirm insurance arrangements before driving. Agree any warranty, delivery, reservation and payment terms in writing. A viewing request on Cars is only confirmed when the seller agrees. You can leave without committing.
